Venerable María de Ágreda — the Lady in Blue

Venerable María de Ágreda

Known as the "Lady in Blue," this seventeenth-century Spanish mystic is believed to have bilocated to New Mexico over five hundred times, evangelizing the Jumano people before any missionary set foot in the region. When Franciscan friars arrived in 1629, they found the people already prepared for baptism — one of the most remarkable missionary phenomena in the history of the Americas. She is the fitting patron of this Institute.
